fieldnotes

fieldnotes is a curatorial research platform devoted to the study of modern and contemporary art of Global Africa.
Acting as a laboratory for emerging and established artists, curators, and scholars, fieldnotes is dedicated to an open exchange of knowledge in the form of publications, exhibitions, and public programming.
We are committed to shaping a more expansive, inclusive, and interconnected understanding of African and Diasporic artistic and intellectual contributions—both within and beyond institutional spaces.

ameera is a curator, writer, and researcher examining transnational dialogues across Africa, West Asia, the Black Atlantic, and the Indian Ocean through visual art and architecture. Her work moves fluidly between institutional and independent contexts—from curatorial research at The Studio Museum in Harlem to collection building for the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, where she serves as Curatorial Assistant on the museum's founding team.

kico is a writer and researcher whose work traces African resonances across Latin America and the Caribbean. Raised between Evanston and Chicago, she studied at the Savannah College of Art and Design before working across galleries, studios, and museums—including conducting public outreach and programming at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. Her collaborative practice has taken her to Egypt, where she facilitated study abroad programs with Return to Kemet and Sacramento State, and to Brasil, where she has conducted independent research. She is currently completing a dissertation on the intersection of visual art, gender, and spirituality in Cuba. kico@fieldnotes.global
